Introducing SciLit – Science Literacy: Empowering youth through science and human rights

The Science Literacy team is saying hi from Bucharest, where we spent the weekend kicking off our brand-new project — SciLit – Science Literacy! This exciting three-year initiative aims to bring science and human rights education closer to young people, breaking stereotypes and addressing pseudoscience through a human rights lens.

Hosted by our amazing partners at ASUR Romania who will also lead us throughout this journey, we’re setting out to make science accessible, engaging, and meaningful for everyone. Because understanding science isn’t just for experts — it’s for everyone whose rights and well-being depend on it.

What is SciLit all about?

SciLit is here to strengthen young people’s critical thinking about how science and pseudoscience impact their lives and rights. Across Europe, many young people face an ongoing science literacy and education crisis, which affects how they make informed decisions, engage in civic life, and participate in public debates.

Through SciLit, we want to change that — by:

  • Empowering youth to think critically and speak up about misinformation;
  • Connecting science with human rights education;
  • Building advocacy and communication skills for youth workers and young leaders;
  • Encouraging civic engagement and participation in democratic spaces.

How will we do it?

Together with our partners across Europe, we’re combining creativity, education, and technology to make science literacy exciting:

  • 🎮 Mythodologie (France) – will lead the development of a fun, gamified e-learning platform for young people and youth workers;
  • 📚 Cicap (Italy) – will supervise and help develop training materials and educational content;
  • 🌐 Square of youth association (Hungary) – will coordinate online and in-person promotion of the project;
  • 🇧🇬 Eciesc (Bulgaria) – will host our learning, teaching, and training activities, bringing young people together to share, learn, and create impact.

Throughout the project, youth workers will take part in hands-on training sessions, local community actions, and awareness campaigns — all built to strengthen their advocacy skills and amplify their voices.

We want to hear from you!

Stay Tuned!

SciLit is more than a project — it’s a movement to reclaim science as a tool for empowerment and equality. Over the next three years, we’ll keep you updated on how you can get involved, participate in our activities, and join the community of young changemakers across Europe.

Together, let’s build a future where science literacy strengthens democracy, rights, and youth voices.
