KEY-YOU Think-Tank Successfully Concluded: Empowering Youth through Co-Creation and Gamification

Zavod Boter has officially completed the KEY-YOU Think-Tank workshop. Designed as a core work package of the project, the intensive program comprehensively empowered young people in digital literacy, active citizenship, critical thinking, and European democratic processes. Ensuring inclusivity was our highest priority; the activities successfully engaged 25 youth representing vulnerable groups, socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and migrant families.

Overcoming Barriers: A Comparative Impact Evaluation
Prior to the workshop, our baseline analysis revealed deeply rooted social apathy, information overload, and a prevalent feeling among peripheral youth that their voices do not matter to political elites. To measure the direct cognitive and affective impact of our educational modules, a rigorous pre- and post-survey methodology was deployed using a 1-to-5 Likert scale.

The results show statistically significant shifts across four critical competency areas:

  • Knowledge of Decision-Making Processes (+89% Improvement): The percentage of participants understanding how to get involved in local decision-making surged from 45% to 85%. Through the interactive simulation “The Pathway of Power,” youth took on the roles of mayors, MEPs, and youth workers, demystifying political pathways and budget allocations.
  • Digital Literacy and Critical Thinking (+37.5% Improvement): Self-confidence in identifying fake news and disinformation rose from a moderate 3.2 to an impressive 4.4 average score. Practical fact-checking exercises helped participants realize how sensationalized headlines manipulate emotions like fear and anger.
  • Digital Security and Data Protection (+25% Improvement): Participants demonstrated a substantially higher awareness of digital identity protection, utilizing strong passwords, two-factor authentication (2FA), and identifying online scams like phishing.
  • Cooperation and Motivation for Engagement (+17% Increase): Motivation consolidated into a near-unanimous 4.8 consensus. The youth experienced the tangible value of structured dialogue and reconciling diverse opinions to solve common challenges.

“By utilizing a participatory co-creation approach, we ensured that the co-designed solutions, narratives, and gaming scenarios directly address the real, everyday obstacles faced by youth with fewer opportunities in both digital and analog environments.”

[Tangible Deliverables: Youth as Active Co-Creators] Rejecting traditional, passive learning formats, the 25 participants acted as the main drivers of the project’s upcoming outputs. They successfully finalized 6 comprehensive Civic Pathway Development Forms, translating abstract civic concepts into gamified educational content:

  1. Digital Detectives (Uncovering Fake News & Disinformation)
  2. Influencers for Change (Active Civic Participation & Mobilization)
  3. Ethical Hackers (Protecting Digital Identity & Privacy Compliance)
  4. Green Innovators (Solving Environmental Challenges & Product Life-Cycles)
  5. Media Literates (Critical Media Analysis & Neutral Reporting)
  6. Young Entrepreneurs (Social Innovation & Business Model Canvas)

These student-led frameworks will provide the exact logical riddles, roles, and dilemmas for the upcoming Digital Escape Room (WP2) and Thematic Card Game (WP3).

We extend our deepest gratitude to the young co-creators for helping reduce the democratic deficit and building a more inclusive society!
